Hawaiian gods still do live on within the people of Hawaii. There are numerous gods that they believe in that include major deities, gods in the realm of death, celestial deities, and volcano gods.

The major deities that are worshiped as Hawaiian gods are Kane, Ku, Lono, and Kanaloa. Kane is known as the creator of all things. Ku is the architect and the maker of war. Lono is known as the god of peace and prosperity, wind, and rain. Rain is a good thing for the islands and is what keeps their soils so rich. Kanaloa is known as the god of the oceans.

The gods in the realm of death that are worshipped in Hawaii are Kaonohiokala, Kuahairo, and Olopue. It is believed that dead chiefs are brought to Kaonohiokala in the eyeball of the sun. Kuahairo is Kaonohiokala’s messenger. Ololpue is the god who was responsible for bringing the dead chiefs to Kaonohiokala.

The most well known goddess is the goddess of the volcano, Pele. She had five brothers and eight sisters who did bidding for her. King Moho or Kamooalii is known as the god of steam. The god of rain and fire is known as Keuakepo. The cloud holder is called Hiiakawawahilani, and the child of war’s name is Keoahikamakaua.

In Hawaii it would seem as if there are Hawaiian gods for everything. For example, there is a god of the canoe makers named Mokualii, the god of the hula named Lakakane, the god of speech known as Haulili, the god of fishermen named Kuula, and many more. The Hawaiians believe in the power of the gods for helping them be as prosperous as they are. Many of the visitors that come to Hawaii see the how the Hawaiians believe in the gods when they come to tour the volcanoes. The gods are worshiped strongly with the volcanoes and this is in hopes that they don’t erupt.

Hawaiian gods are still worshiped throughout the state of Hawaii on all of the islands for many different reasons. There are tons of different gods for practically everything.
